Summertime Skin Care BLOG
Want to learn of a few simple ways on how to take care of your skin during this summertime?
Here are 6 simple ways you can protect your skin this summer!
1. Always Wear SUNSCREEN!
You should always wear a high quality broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher everyday. It’s a common myth that you do not need sunscreen on cloudy days or cooler days. UV radiation is always present! You should also make sure to reapply your SPF every 2 hours when swimming or outdoors due to sweating.2. Avoid peak sun hours
You should avoid being outdoors between 10am and 2pm as that is the time frame which is typically the most intense for UV radiation. Of course, we all have to venture outside for one thing or another! When doing so, try to stay in shady areas or wear protective SPF clothing. Always use topical antioxidants for added sun protection and help avoid further sun damage.3. You should always moisturize
Summer is a great time to help your skin get its moisture back, especially after the winter and spring season where your skin may feel a bit dry. A great skincare product to incorporate into your daily regimen is hyaluronic acid. This product allows skin cells to absorb and retain more water contributing to that plump, glowy look! One of the best ways to keep your skin moisturizer is staying well hydrated with plenty of water intake as well. This allows for your skin to look refreshed and rejuvenated.4. Avoid heavy skin care products
During the summer months, it is imperative to continue and keep your skin moisturized without feeling the “heaviness” of your skin care products. This season is always a great time to switch over from thick creamy products to light weight gel alternatives. This is specifically important for all with oily skin but can also be applied to all skin types in order to achieve a breathable skin care routine. Always opt for a light moisturizer during the hot months as heavy weight products are more prone to clog your skin. Switching over your products during summer prevents extensive clogging which leads to fewer breakouts!5. Avoid comedogenic products
When the weather changes into those hot and humid summer months, it is very important to be aware of which products are comedogenic vs. non-comedogenic. This simply means which products can possibly clog your pores vs. not clog your pores. Any skin care products that may contain mineral oils can cause clogging that leads to a build-up of excess oils in your pores resulting in more breakouts. It is always a smarter choice to opt for non-comedogenic products when choosing your next skin care product! And if in doubt, always check labels!6. Always remember your LIPS!
Remember to always pay special attention to your lips! Lips can become chapped when exposed to the sun’s UV rays and hot temperatures. Applying a proper lip balm with sunscreen is essential to your lips! Not only does it offer a physical barrier against those UV elements but it also provides proper hydration to your lips. Regular use of lip balms or lip oils also helps decrease any dryness or cracking of the lips that may occur when spending time outdoors.
